Chittenango Creek Report by Walt Stroud |
Although only five paddlers hit the water Saturday, this trip was another shining star in our lineup of paddling adventures. We had any easy launch into Chittenango Creek at Sheldon Park in Bridgeport and were immediately headed downstream at over 8 miles per hour because of the fast flowing water. The creek was wide and free of rocks because of the high water, so it provided us with an exciting ride. After a little more than a quarter mile, the creek began to slow and the paddle became more relaxed as we passed a combination of woods, farmland, houses, and camps. Eventually we left Chittenango and entered into Oneida Lake. As the sun broke through the clouds, we paddled east along the shore of a relatively calm Oneida Lake. Our final destination was the Fisher Bay Restaurant where we enjoyed sitting on their deck in the sunshine and warm air while we contemplated our next paddling adventures. We ended our adventure with a delicious dinner consisting of special offerings of perch and prime rib. Ours hosts at the restaurant really helped to make this a memorable day and we plan on making this trip one of our regulars. Happy Paddling!!
