A gorgeous sunny Sunday brought out 82 kayakers and ten potential kayakers to the Fisher Bay Restaurant for the opening of our club's 9th Paddling Season. The new tee shirts were very well received and most were sold. Guest speaker Kevin Steigelmeier related some of his experiences kayaking around Brooklyn and Manhattan Island, watching the tug boat races and being quite the object of curiousity with his kayak on top of his SUV in Times Square. President Rick gave Kevin an honorary CNY Kayakers membership, a patch and a tee shirt as thank-you gifts for joining us. Kevin also showed us what his finished book will look like and promised to send some signed copies to Camillus Kayak Shop for members who want to purchase one. We held a 50/50 raffle with the Central New York SPCA benefitting with a check from the club for $81. (April is prevention of cruelty month) The buffet spread was delicious and the whipped cream cake was the perfect finish. The day ended with several members still soaking up the last rays of sunshine on the dock with friends.
