Oswego River from Phoenix, May 24th 2009

A beautiful Sunday afternoon drew 24 paddlers to enjoy Oswego River: Dave F., Michelle, Irene & Dana, RL, Kevin, Bob, Roger & Anne, Hugh, Jeff, Ellen, Rick & Cindy, Lynn, Annie & Jerry, Aneta & Robert, Tish & Gene, Kim, Kim W., and Susan. It was a sunny and breezy day perfect for paddling the 9 miles that we did.

We kayaked towards Fulton against the wind, which worked our muscles and prevented us from overheating. The river was moderately busy with motorboats and jet-skiers here and there. We saw some waterfowl with their cute fluffy young. A few members of the group stopped briefly at a sunny clearing to stretch their legs. Others paddled on to get more mileage, while some just rested in their boats. After the turn-around point we discovered a mysterious channel going off the main river. It turned out to be an old stone lock, overgrown with ivy as if straight from Indiana Jones’ adventures. We followed in a single file admiring the eerie and beautiful surroundings. It wasn’t long before we reunited with Oswego River through another open passage. We paddled back against the current.

It was nice to meet a few new paddlers who joined the club, and to reunite with others who were long absent from the club trips. The more, the merrier!
