An oasis of a day brought out 40 paddlers and another great beach buffet (Roger came thru again with the table!) on South Sandy. The North wind made the lake sound like the ocean as we approached and the waves out there were too tempting for many of us to resist. Lots of paddlers took their boats out to surf and then tried each other's boats while others explored the reeded waterway system of the Lakeview Marsh. The unusual part of this trip was the capsizing of Kim's boat and the many attempts to help her out. The wave action proved too daunting for most of the would-be rescuers, but Kitt was able to help her get back into her boat, which capsized again due to the amount of water in it. Kitt then told Kim to get on the back of his boat, but instead of mounting from the back, she mounted from the side, which then capsized Kitt's boat. Pam watched all the action from her kayak, which was bobbing furiously up and down in the breakers, which caused yet another round of concern from those on the beach (There was much spectating from the beach and wondering where all the tow lines were hiding.) After a helpful couple on a jet-ski towed Kim's boat back to shore, Phil paddled out and attached a line to Kitt's boat and towed it back, while Dave (the one and only) paddled out with another line for Kitt to grab on to for a tow. At this point Kim made it to the shallow area (those PFD's really do come in handy at times) and there were many sighs of relief from the spectators. 20 of us proceeded to the Waterfront Tavern for the post-paddle repast; for those involved in the adventure it was a great wind-down!
