Camping Out in Images

Kim, Sue and Dan, Charles and Mary (with arm in brace from a fall) got an early start at the campground. The rain held off so Thursday it was a dry set up, pork loin on the grill for dinner, and a pie that melted in your mouth.  The rain began at 11 PM and stopped just about breakfast time the next day.  It would be the theme of the weekend along with the voracious mosquitoes and Deet perfume.
Others began arriving on Friday and settling in between the sprinkles:  Eric, Rick B, Hugh, Bob, Tish and Gene, Di and Big Mike, Jim and Mickey, Nancy, Nina, Rick P (minus Cindy who had to work - phooey).  The rain let up so eight of us went out onto Sacandaga for a paddle.  Four tackled the rough side and went to the end of the lake and through some beaver dams: four crossed over to the calmer side and enjoyed the view.  Thunder in the distance warned all to paddle back a little faster.  Both groups were drenched by the warm rain before reaching shore.
All dried out nine headed for Speculator InnFood and service were fantastic.  Back at camp we gathered under the canopys to chat, listen to music and rain, and watch Rick B make a valiant effort to keep a fire going.  The night was full of thunder and lightning and more voracious mosquitoes.
Saturday brought some relief, plus Roger and Ann.  Pancake breakfast with all the fixings was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s (Thanks to Jim, Mickey and Big Mike from the club).  The lake was just perfect for Bob and Hugh.  They started early and paddled 22 miles. It looked a bit rough when the rest of us were heading out, so we paddled the rivers.  The dam was a tad lower than usual, but the current made the crossing a challenge.  A few made it and paddled onto other dams.  Others paddled back on the river to meet the rocks and rapids.  After the paddle there was an ice cream reward.  Rick B (Thanks for hosting Rogers Birthday Party from the club) and Rick P hosted the Saturday night dinner.  Good food was plentiful. Roger was surprised with a birthday cake which we graciously helped him eat.  The camp fire was roaring well that night.
On Sunday paddlers gathered for coffee and those who had enough of the rain & blood sucking packed their cars.  The lake was rough again at Moffitt.  Eric and Kim decided to paddle Lake Pleasant and were rewarded with an eagle sitting.  Off the water we tried some spelunking (Kunjamuk cave) then built a truly roaring fire.  The bonus day Monday was fantastic.  Blue skies and sun highlighted a paddle around Piseco Lake and Outlet under the route 8 bridge. The loon spread his wings over the gorgeous landscape.
