Hinckley Reservoir Paddle and Picnic
Sunday, July 8, 2007
Approximately 6-8 miles

Hinckley Reservoir is located north of Utica on Route 365. We will be paddling on the reservoir. The paddle is approximately 6-8 miles round trip depending on how far the group wishes to go. Be sure to bring your spray skirts. Please be sure that you are properly dressed for the paddle and have all appropriate equipment. There are some nice swimming options on the reservoir. We will be launching from the Hinckley DEC park. They have a nice beach and picnic area. We are also planning on having an informal picnic at the park after the paddle instead of stopping at a restaurant, so bring sandwiches and something to pass. We are trying to avoid the need to cook something, so keep that in mind. There is a fee for entering the park.

Directions from Syracuse:
If you are not familiar with the area, we will meet at Thruway exit 34A off of Route 481 at 9:00 AM and caravan to the launch site.

Alternate Directions from Syracuse: If you wish to go directly to the reservoir, take the NYS Thruway east to exit 31 in Utica. Take Rt. 12 north. When you near Barneveld, take Rt. 365 east. Approximately 4.1 miles from the intersection of Rt. 12 and Rt. 365 you will see South Side Road which crosses a bridge on the right. This is just below the dam. We will meet at this bridge at 10.30 AM. This is not the launch site, but we will meet there and then proceed to the park. These directions do not necessarily represent the shortest route, but they are the easiest to follow if you are not familiar with the area.

Please Note: Directions for each trip are provided to help people unfamiliar with the area to find the location of the trip. They are not meant to necessarily be the most direct route from your own location.
