Approximately 6-8 Miles

Oneida Shores is an Onondaga County Park located on the southern shore of Oneida Lake. This paddle is best for experienced paddlers because of wind, waves, and boat traffic. We will meet at 11:00 AM in the beach parking area at Oneida Shores County Park. We will be launching from the beach area and paddling out onto the lake and around Frenchman Island. Because of possible windy conditions, this trip is best for experienced paddlers. If it is windy, we will paddle along the shore and into the bays. Be sure to bring your spray skirt. Please be sure that you are properly dressed for the paddle and have all appropriate equipment. If you have wheels for your boat, bring them also. The water is about 100 yards from the parking area. If you don't have wheels, we will help you with your boat.

After the paddle, we can picnic and swim in the picnic/beach area. The picnic area is adjacent to the beach. Bring sandwiches, drinks, etc. The park does not allow any glass containers, so please bring only cans or plastic. There are picnic tables and grills available. However, if it is a busy day, all the tables and grills may be occupied by the time we arrive. You may want to bring items that don't require cooking. You may also want to bring a chair and consider bringing a dish to pass.

If the weather is good and we have lots of paddlers, I'm sure we will attract lots of attention. It should be a great day.

Directions from Syracuse: From Syracuse, take Route 81 north and get off at the Brewerton exit. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Bartell Road and proceed approximately .8 miles to the park entrance. There is an admissions fee to enter the park.

Please Note: Directions for each trip are provided to help people unfamiliar with the area to find the location of the trip. They are not meant to necessarily be the most direct route from your own location.
