8-9 miles

We will paddle from Dexter (Delorme page 91 on the bottom) and paddle down the end of the Black River out onto Lake Ontario, called Black River Bay (Delorme page 83). We will spend some time paddling in the Dexter Wildlife Management Area, known for wildlife. This paddle is found on page 371 of the Quiet Waters Canoe Guide/NY.

This trip is NOT for beginners. We will be paddling 8-9 miles and there can be some chop on the lake if breezy (bring your spray skirts). Please be sure that you are properly dressed for the paddle and have all appropriate equipmentBring lunch and snacks, water, gear, etc.

For those who want to caravan and/or carpool, we'll leave from the Cicero park-n-ride across the road from the bottom of the northbound Cicero exit ramp off Route 81, at 11 AM. Rather than have a lot of vehicles with one driver, let's try to put two or more in each vehicle (bring your spare foam blocks, straps, etc.) so come a few minutes early.

For those who want to meet us there - take Rt. 81 north to exit 46/Coffeen St. Take a left at the end of the ramp onto Rt. 12F. Stay on 12F to Rt. 180 - take a right to Dexter. After crossing the river, take the first left on Water St. and then left on Liberty to the Town Boat Launch. We should be on the water paddling by 12:00 PM . We should be off the water by mid to late afternoon and will probably go out for a bite to eat at the Barracks in Sackets Harbor.
