West Canada Creek

We’ll Paddle on the West Canada Creek, Near Barneveld, Sunday, May 17th. This is a popular Paddle on one of the area’s best fishing streams. We’ll join The GE Ski Club on this Trip. Meet 11AM at the fishing access at the bottom of Putnam Hill Rd along Rte 28 . A car shuttle is Required. Once We are all gathered, We Will Take cars to Newport, the End of the Trip, and Then shuttle back to The Start near Putnam Rd. This is usually a 4 hr trip, Give or Take. Dress according to weather And Bring a Lunch -- We’ll Stop along the way. Most of the trip is rather calm & relaxing but the last section has some faster moving water so a PFD & Spray Skirt is recommended and remember to tie down your stuff! Some boats have Flipped during previous Paddles. Please be sure that you are properly dressed for the paddle and have all appropriate equipment. Afterwards, we’ll stop at a local watering Hole in Barneveld – Van’s Tavern.

Directions from Syracuse: Take the NYS Thruway east from Syracuse to Exit 33 which is Route 365. This is also the exit for the Turning Stone Casino. Take Route 365 toward Rome, NY. There are several turns as Route 365 goes around Rome, so watch for the Route 365 signs. Continue on Route 365. You will be going through Holland Patent. From Holland Patent, go 2.1 Miles turning right onto Mapledale Rd. Go 1.7 miles to end and with Super Shoes on your Left turn left onto St Rte 12, go .4 miles and turn right onto St Rte 28 south. Then go 2.1 miles to fishing launch area on your left ( Putnam Rd will be on your right ). This is the starting point.
