Black Creek flows into the south
side of Hinckley Reservoir. We will launch where Black Creek
crosses Rt. 8 and then paddle upstream and return. Launch time is
1:00 PM. There may be a current to paddle against for the first
half of this trip. The last time we did this trip (several years
ago), the current wasn't real strong, but we won't know for sure until
we get there. Also, be sure that you are properly dressed for the
paddle and have all appropriate equipment.
Directions from Syracuse: Take the NYS Thruway east from Syracuse to the Utica Exit. From there, head north on Rts. 8 &12. After a few miles, Rt. 8 splits off from Rt. 12. From that point, the launch site is approximately 15.4 miles on Rt. 8. Look for the bridge that crosses Black Creek. The GPS coordinates of the launch site are N 43º 17.473' and W 074º 58.865'.
