The combined
effects of the Honeywell clean-up and the zebra mussels have resulted
in crystal clear water in which huge carp and other fish are not only
highly visible but abundant. We will paddle off the shoreline so that
we can observe the fish and heron and other wildlife; then back to the
launch area - note the directions and map below - the input area is
very paddler friendly; a shale beach area to launch from; plenty of
parking - you can see the parking area when you are driving on 690 just
west of the fairgrounds. It is a large open lot. You can also see it
from the satellite if you go to Google Earth. (It is not the Honeywell
launch dock - this is right on the lake). After the paddle we will go
about a mile down State Fair Blvd to Quaker Steak & Lube for
post-paddle repast.
We will meet at the launch site at 12:00 PM. Please be sure that you are properly dressed for the paddle and have all appropriate equipment. Directions: From the East - Take 690 West to State Fair Exit; turn right off exit ramp into the parking area. From the West: Take 690 East to the State Fair Exit; turn left at the light and take the first left under the bridge straight into the parking area. Please Note: Directions for each trip are provided to help people unfamiliar with the area to find the location of the trip. They are not meant to necessarily be the most direct route from your own location. |
