This trip is provided as an alternative to the more difficult Tioughnioga River trip. It is a nice trip for beginners. We will gather from 11:30 A.M. until 11:59 A.M. to help each other into their kayaks for the noon paddle. We start out on the Seneca River then take a left at marker 112 onto a little known creek with pleasant views, farm smells, wildlife, and a real old wooden bridge to paddle under. Please be sure that you are properly dressed for the paddle and have all appropriate equipment. Directions from Syracuse to launch:
Take the NYS Thruway west to the Waterloo Exit (Exit 41). At the end of
the exit ramp, proceed south on Rt. 414 to Routes 5 & 20. Turn
right on Routes 5 & 20. Proceed through the next three stoplights
on Route 5 & 20 (1st is Wal-Mart, 2nd is main intersection in
Waterloo, 3rd is Park Place/Locust Street). After the 3rd stoplight,
take your next left on to Oak Street. There is a sign for the Community
Center and boat ramp if you look closely. Drive all the way to the end
of Oak Street. You will pass by the Community Center on your right just
before crossing a small bridge onto Oak Island. Please Note: Directions for
each trip are provided to help people unfamiliar with the area to find
the location of the trip. They are not meant to necessarily be the most
direct route from your own location.
