Chippewa Bay Sunday, June 26, 2016. Sunny warm day for Hugh, Bob, Dave F, Bill E, Dave L, Eric, Kim, Rick, Cindy, Mark and Sue who met at Chippewa Bay for a 1:00 launch into a stiff westerly wind on nice clear and warm water for a jaunt viewing islands, distant Boldt Castle and 1,000 Islands Bridge, osprey, a bald eagle, heron, and surprisingly few motor boats and jet skiis. Bob and Hugh went extra miles back on the main river while others moseyed on up an inlet in the bay, lunch stop, and a fun tailwind to surf back to the launch.

Kim, Eric, Rick and Cindy had reservations at the Captain's Inn and Suites for the night in Alexandria Bay and Dave F at the Otter Creek Inn. Kim, Eric and Rick had dinner at a restaurant next to the motel while Cindy made use of the motel's boat l aunch to paddle out to the River at Alex Bay's downtown. Kim, Eric and Rick also checked out the winding down of the weekend's gathering of motorcycles that had come to party. They also checked out Keewaydin and Kring Point State Parks as possible group camping paddles for next year.

On Monday Kim, Eric, Rick and Cindy drove a short way to the village of Redwood to paddle on Butterfield Lake at a state boat launch that is on our schedule to group paddle in September. Kim and Cindy watched a gathering of turkey vultures dining on a large rock and encountered a large loon near the launch with a nest very close to shore. In this area are several small lakes with state boat launches and the Indian River and Black Lake a short drive from Route 81. The area is worth the 2 hour drive for the clean water and nice scenery.
