I spoke with Tish today and she says that after a 6 hour surgery yesterday, Gene is doing extremely well. They cleaned up the ragged edges of the arthritis in his neck, inserted 2 metal rods and screws and told him it was a good thing that he got in there when he did. He was in ICU this afternoon but was planning to be transferred to the 7th floor tonight and maybe released on Friday. He will have a cervical collar on for 3 months but has regained the feeling and use of his hand and fingers. Both thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and plan to join us paddling NEXT year. py
